General Data

BACKGROUND

ONUK MRTP20®, has been developed relying heavily on the experience in design, construction and intense use of the Kaan15 Class ONUK MRTP15® and the Kaan29/33 Class ONUK MRTP29/33® boats and in the light of most recent technologies and future trends in the world, to exceed the technical and tactical requirements of various potential customers in Türkiye and around the world. After very successful service record of the Fast Intervention Craft (FIC) fleet of the Turkish Coast Guard (TCG), FIC project has been decided to continue with the production of Improved Fast Intervention Craft ONUK MRTP20® First ONUK MRTP20® was delivered to TCG in September 2006.

PERFORMANCE

Speed and seakeeping:

Depending on engine/configuration selection, the proven ONUK KO-03 deep V hull will enable the boat to reach speeds up to 75 knots in calm waters and above 60 knots in Sea State 3, allowing rapid reaction comparable to a helicopter, and can be used in confined spots or heavy weathers not suitable for helicopter operations.

The foreseen developments for the next five years concerning the engine and drive system technologies have been taken into consideration in the design of ONUK MRTP20®.

The hull is the proven Onuk KO-03 deep V hull designed by Kaan-Ekber Onuk. Onuk KO-03 is a very substantial improvement over the well proven Onuk KO-01 which is the basis of the exceptional strength and sea-keaping of the Kaan15 class ONUK MRTP15® Fast Intervention Craft of the Turkish Coast Guard. Twenty-five (25) of these craft are already in service as of November 2006.

In order to enhance the Multi Mission Capabilities (SAR, Environment protection, Patrol, Attack etc.), increased mission payload and accommodation space/facilities have been provided.

Stability: Intact-Damaged:

Commercial and Turkish / NATO naval standards have been applied to the ONUK MRTP20® for the intact and damaged stability. ONUK MRTP20® meets the Turkish Navy and NATO criteria for damaged stability and will remain afloat and upright with flooding in any single main compartment.

CONSTRUCTION AND COMPONENTS

ONUK MRTP20® is built in advanced composites to satisfy the very tough requirements of an intensive professional use together with a long service life. The benefits of the advanced composite structure are:

WEIGHT REDUCTION

  • Improved Performance
  • Increased Payload
  • Fuel Savings

CORROSION RESISTANCE

  • Longer service life
  • Maintenance savings

IMPROVED

  • Threat avoidance/detection
  • Ballistic protection

REDUCED SIGNATURES

  • Machinery vibration/acoustic
  • Magnetic signature
  • Heat signature

The hull and superstructure are constructed in accordance with the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Type Approval Certificate 416.01. All boats of the series are delivered with the relevant DNV Certificates.

A large shock resistant fender system will enable the ONUK MRTP20® to board safely larger vessels in rough waters.

The helm station and the interiors have been designed in line with the SAE recommendations for ergonomics to provide the crew with maximum comfort and minimum fatigue in prolonged use in heavy seas.

Machinery and propulsion
The mechanical components are selected with the intensive professional use in mind. They offer a high level of reliability, despite the extreme performance requirements.

In the standard configuration, the propulsion is by twin Diesels, 2x1200kW + Arneson Surface Drives ASD14 + Rolla propellers. Depending on the speed requirements, the ONUK MRTP20® can be equipped with different engines driving through ASD or MJP Water Jets for optimum operational efficiency / price ratio.

MISSION MODULES

ONUK MRTP20® can be equipped with various mission modules depending on the customer requirements. Despite the size of the platform, these modules have been integrated with the modularity and reconfigurability objectives in mind. Thus, the platform can be reconfigured with different mission modules, increasing dramatically the operational flexibility and reducing the costs.
The mission modules would be:

Stabilized turret
Search and rescue equipment
Sea ambulance equipment with full coroner suite
Multi sensor surveillance suite
Pollution control laboratory
Short range missile module
Special operations module
